I’ve always been a fan of SpongeBob.

These days,
there are so many different
SpongeBob-themed goods available.

Especially with more SpongeBob merchandise
coming out of China,
there’s everything from
Bikini Bottom resident fish keychains
to all kinds of figures.

It’s actually pretty fun
just looking through all the different items.

Then, while traveling in Gangneung,
I stopped by a small gift shop.

I had only seen mini figures
of the Bikini Bottom residents before,
but this shop also had
mini figures featuring
SpongeBob characters.

I was curious,
so I decided to buy one!

SpongeBob Mini Figure

This is the SpongeBob
mini figure I bought.

It’s a random figure,
so I had no idea
which character I would get.

When I opened the package,
there was a character card
at the top.

So even before taking out the figure,
I could immediately see
which character I got.

And the result was…

Squidward,
my favorite character!!

Out of all the characters,
I got Squidward.

SpongeBob Mini Figure Characters

The SpongeBob mini figure series
comes with one random character
from several different options.

Personally,
I would’ve been happy
with almost any character
except Sandy.

Of course,
getting the secret figure
would’ve been the best…

But I got Squidward,
my favorite character,
so I was definitely happy
with the result.

Character Card Included

The figure also comes
with a character card.

The front and back
feature illustrations and designs
of the character you received.

It looks nice displayed
or stored together with the figure.

The random figure itself is fun,
but having a character card included
makes collecting the series
even more interesting.

Why These Mini Figures Are So Cute

Personally,
I think the biggest appeal
of these mini figures
is their tiny size.

Taking a character
that’s normally much bigger
and shrinking it down this small
somehow makes it even cuter.

Plus, there’s the fun
of opening a random package
to see which character you get.

For people like me
who enjoy collecting
small figures and character goods,
the tiny size is also
a big advantage.

Even if you collect several of them,
they don’t take up much space.

The packaging itself
also features SpongeBob characters
and illustrations,
so even the package
looks cute.

Squidward Mini Figure in Person

And finally,
here’s Squidward!

Since these mini figures
are extremely small,
you can’t really expect
the same level of detail
as a larger figure.

Still, considering its tiny size,
Squidward’s main features
are represented pretty well.

When I first looked at it,
the overall colors
felt a little dull.

Especially around the eyes,
something looked slightly different
from the Squidward
I remembered.

It felt a little strange.

The figure looks pretty similar
to the Squidward illustration
on the packaging,
so I wondered why
it looked so unfamiliar.

Then I looked it up…

Apparently,
the whites of Squidward’s eyes
aren’t actually pure white.

They have a yellowish tint.

The figure has white eyes,
which is probably why
it looked a little strange to me.

Back of the Figure

On the back of Squidward,
there’s a small logo
and some related markings.

From the front,
it looks like a regular
mini character figure,
while these markings
are printed on the back.

It’s really tiny,
so it’s easy to display
on a desk or shelf
without taking up much space.

SpongeBob Mini Figure Review

I happened to find
this SpongeBob mini figure
while traveling in Gangneung
and decided to buy one.

I wasn’t specifically looking for it,
and I just happened to find it
at a small gift shop during my trip.

That probably makes it
a little more memorable
as a souvenir too.

Most importantly,
I randomly picked one
and got Squidward,
my favorite character!

It’s small enough
to collect without taking up
too much space,
and opening the package
to see which character you get
is also part of the fun.

If you’re a SpongeBob fan,
I think it’s worth picking up
at least one.

If I come across these again,
I’d like to try my luck
and get another character next time.
