Daegu The Farmstay Glamping Review | My Stay, Pros and Cons

Before summer came to an end,
I went glamping
with some friends from high school.

We originally looked at
a glamping site in Ulsan
with a large swimming pool.

Then we came across
The Farmstay in Daegu.

It had recently opened,
and the facilities looked clean,
so we decided to give it a try.

I paid for this stay myself.

Here’s what I liked,
what felt convenient,
and what could have been better.

The Farmstay vs.
The Farmstory

The names are similar,
so they can be a little confusing
when you’re first looking into it.

The Farmstay is for
overnight glamping stays.

The Farmstory is for
day trips with a barbecue
and some time in the pool.

If you want to stay overnight,
look for The Farmstay.

If you only want to spend the day
swimming and having a barbecue,
look for The Farmstory.

The building near the entrance
serves as both a cafe
and the check-in area.

The cafe was spacious,
with plenty of room
to sit down for a coffee
or take a short break.

Check-In, Parking
,and Extra Charges

When I visited,
check-in started at 3 PM.

We arrived around 2:40 PM,
and they let us check in
a little early.

There was parking
near the entrance,
with more spaces farther inside.

The standard glamping rate
was based on two guests.

Since there were four of us,
we paid for two extra guests
and the barbecue
when we checked in.

The additional charges
during our visit were:

  • Extra guest: 20,000 KRW per person
  • Two extra guests: 40,000 KRW
  • Barbecue: 20,000 KRW
  • Total extra payment: 60,000 KRW

This was separate
from the accommodation price.

They also provided
towels and toiletries
at check-in.

I’ve forgotten toiletries
on previous glamping trips,
so having them provided
was convenient.

The 24-Hour
Self-Service Store

After check-in,
they showed us
the self-service store
right next door.

For me,
this was one of the biggest
advantages of The Farmstay.

At other glamping sites
I’ve visited,
the store sometimes closed early
or had a limited selection.

That made it inconvenient
when we needed something
later in the evening.

Here, the store was open
24 hours a day,
and the selection
was surprisingly good.

They sold alcohol,
soft drinks, snacks,
meat, meal kits,
and ice cream.

Since they even sold meat,
you could put together a meal
without bringing
a huge amount of groceries.

You pick up a basket,
choose what you need,
and pay at the kiosk.

There was also
a water dispenser
and an ice machine,
both free to use.

Bottles filled with drinking water
were available too.

They also had buckets
you could fill with ice and water
to keep your drinks cold.

I usually bring plenty of water
when I go glamping,
so this was especially handy.

There were two shared microwaves
in the store.

Our accommodation
already had its own microwave,
so we didn’t need them.

They also had
an instant ramyeon cooker.

It looked useful
for a quick breakfast
or a late-night snack.

Barbecue and
the Self-Service Bar

The barbecue self-service bar
was another highlight for me.

When you’re planning a barbecue,
meat isn’t the only thing
you need to buy.

There’s lettuce,
garlic, kimchi,
ssamjang,
and all the other little extras.

You often only need
a small amount of each,
but end up buying more
than you can finish.

There’s also the preparation
and washing to think about.

When I visited The Farmstay,
paying the 20,000 KRW
barbecue fee
included access
to the self-service bar.

They had lettuce,
garlic, kimchi,
radish,
and pickled onions.

The ssamjang was already
portioned out,
which made it easy to use.

Salt, soy sauce,
pepper, tongs,
ladles, and plates
were available too.

I also noticed
forks for children.

Not having to buy
and prepare every side ingredient
made the barbecue
much more convenient.

Our Glamping Unit
and Barbecuing in the Rain

Outside the main building,
there was a map
of the entire site.

The pool looked quite far
from the accommodation
on the map.

But from Unit 18,
where we stayed,
it wasn’t that far at all.

Our unit had
Japanese-inspired decor.

There was also a table
near the entrance
where you could have a barbecue.

Unfortunately,
it rained during our visit,
so we couldn’t use
that outdoor table.

There was a canopy above it,
and I initially thought
it would keep the rain out.

But it was more of a sunshade,
and the rain passed through.

They did provide charcoal
at another cooking spot,
so we still grilled
our meat and seafood.

That evening,
we had pork belly,
bibim noodles,
and raw shrimp.

The rain was disappointing,
but sharing a meal
with old friends
was still a good time.

What’s Provided

in the Accommodation

Our unit had a refrigerator,
a microwave,
and a Guibada camping cooker.

They explained
that the cooker could be used
for grilling meat
or making simple meals
such as ramyeon.

Plates, tongs,
and scissors
were already in the unit.

We didn’t have to
keep going back to the store
to pick up cooking equipment.

Dish soap and a sponge
were provided too.

There was also insect spray
for any bugs
that made their way inside.

A drying rack was available
for swimsuits.

Because of the rain,
ours were still damp
the following morning.

Still, it was useful
to have somewhere
to hang them.

Three beds were placed
next to each other,
with enough space
for four of us to sleep.

However,
you should check
the number of blankets
when you arrive.

I’ll explain why
a little later.

The hair dryer
had strong airflow,
which I appreciated.

The lighting was white
rather than yellow,
so doing my makeup
was comfortable too.

There was a private bathroom
inside the accommodation,
and it was clean.

The toiletries included
toothbrushes
and washing essentials,
so there was less
to pack from home.

Gravel Paths
and Waste Collection

Because it rained
during our stay,
I noticed an advantage
I hadn’t thought about beforehand.

The ground wasn’t dirt.

The stone and gravel surface
might make it difficult
to roll a suitcase around.

But when it rained,
our shoes didn’t get
covered in mud.

It was a small detail
that turned out
to be quite convenient.

The waste collection system
was convenient too.

We separated general waste
and food waste
into the designated bins.

Recyclables were left
in the designated area,
and staff collected them.

You still need
to sort everything properly.

But not having to carry
the rubbish to another location
before checking out
made things easier.

The Pools and
Day-Use Facilities

There was a shallow pool
for younger children,
as well as a deeper pool.

Shared swimming tubes
were available too.

We were told
that items marked
with The Farmstory
or The Farmstay name
were for communal use.

Some unmarked items
were also shared equipment.

If you’re unsure
whether something is available
for everyone to use,
it’s worth checking first.

The day-use area
had separate buildings
where visitors could barbecue
and relax.

There were tables
and air conditioning inside.

It looked like a nice option
if you wanted to enjoy
the pool and barbecue
without staying overnight.

Shared toilets and showers
were available
for day-use visitors.

I didn’t go inside myself,
but a friend who used the toilets
said they were very clean.

What Could Be Better:
Equipment and Service

Although the facilities
were convenient,
a few things were disappointing.

When they explained
how to use the Guibada cooker,
they noticed
that a plug for one attachment
was missing.

They said
they would replace it,
but we didn’t receive it.

We mentioned it again,
but it still wasn’t replaced.

In the end,
we only used the cooker
with the pot.

We felt a little awkward
about asking repeatedly,
so we didn’t bring it up again.

Still, it was disappointing
not to be able to use
the equipment as intended.

There were also moments
when the owner’s voice
became raised
while communicating with a staff member.

Since we were there to relax,
that occasionally made us
a little uncomfortable.

What Could Be Better:
Bugs Inside the Unit

The site is surrounded
by mountains,
so I expected
there to be some insects.

However,
around three flies
kept buzzing around
inside our unit.

We had a hard time
getting rid of them,
even with the insect spray.

What surprised me most
was finding a house centipede
on the bed.

I’d never encountered one
on a bed
during a glamping trip before,
so that really startled me.

I understand
that this is accommodation
close to nature.

But if you’re sensitive to bugs,
it’s something
you may want to keep in mind.

What Could Be Better:
Pool Water

The facilities generally
looked new and clean.

However,
I was less impressed
with the pool water.

When I went underwater
wearing goggles,
the water looked
a little cloudy to me.

I also saw dead insects
on the bottom of the pool.

Given the surroundings,
I understand
that insects can get into the water.

Still,
it was something I noticed
while swimming.

This was my personal experience
on the day we visited.

What Could Be Better:
Noise from Nearby Units

The glamping units
aren’t very far apart.

Because of that,
we could hear noise
from the neighboring units.

When another group
was being noisy,
we told the owner,
who addressed it promptly.

That part was handled well.

During our visit,
quiet hours started at 10 PM.

Music played through speakers
before that time.

What I hadn’t expected
was the road noise.

The road was close enough
that passing cars
were quite noticeable
in the morning.

The sound woke me up.

If you’re a light sleeper
or sensitive to traffic noise,
this is worth considering.

Visiting with Four?
Check the Blankets

The blanket situation
was the most disappointing
part of our stay.

Because the standard booking
was for two guests,
there were initially
two blankets in the unit.

If they had been large enough,
we might have shared them.

But both were single-size blankets.

They weren’t enough
for four people.

We had paid
the additional guest fees
for a group of four.

However,
we only noticed
the missing blankets
late at night.

We asked for more,
and they did bring
an extra blanket.

But only one arrived,
rather than two.

In the end,
four of us slept
with three blankets.

Even in summer,
you still want a blanket
when the air conditioning is on.

If you’re visiting
with a larger group,
I’d recommend checking
the bedding count
as soon as you check in.

No Table or TV
in the Sleeping Area

There was a table
in the dining area.

However,
there wasn’t a separate table
inside the sleeping area.

That made it a little awkward
when we wanted to have
a quick snack indoors.

There was no TV either.

If watching TV
is part of how you like
to relax at your accommodation,
keep that in mind.

My Final Thoughts
on The Farmstay

What I liked most
about The Farmstay
was how much
was already provided.

The facilities and supplies
made many parts of the trip
very convenient.

The highlights for me were:

  • Generally clean accommodation and facilities
  • A 24-hour self-service store
  • Free drinking water and ice
  • A self-service bar with the barbecue package
  • Towels, toiletries, and kitchen equipment
  • A private bathroom in the unit
  • Swimming pools
  • An on-site cafe
  • Paths that didn’t turn muddy in the rain
  • Convenient waste collection

If you want to combine
swimming and a barbecue
around Daegu’s Palgongsan area,
I think it’s worth considering.

Having a day-use option
as well as overnight stays
was another plus.

On the other hand,
the missing cooker part,
insufficient blankets,
bugs, noise,
and pool water
were disappointing.

If you’re visiting
with four or more people,
check the bedding
and equipment
when you first arrive.

Explaining the downsides
has made this review
quite detailed.

But there were definitely
plenty of things
I liked about the stay too.

More thorough preparation
and follow-through
on guest requests
would make the experience better.

This review reflects
my own visit
and personal impressions.

If you’re planning
a glamping trip
to The Farmstay in Daegu,
I hope the pros and cons
help you decide
whether it suits your group.
