Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo Review | Ocean View Room, Early Check-In & Parking
For this summer vacation,
I traveled to Mukho and Gangneung.
I had decided on the destinations in advance,
but I ended up booking the hotel
later than I expected.
By then, there weren’t many good
ocean view hotels left.
Since the summer vacation season
was almost over,
I thought Gangneung wouldn’t be too crowded.
But there were still
a lot more people than I expected.
Among the hotels I found,
Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo stood out
because it is right in front of Gyeongpo Beach
and seemed to have a great location and view.
So that’s where I decided to stay!

Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo
Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo Exterior

The weather was absolutely beautiful
on the day I visited.
The sky was clear,
and the hotel’s mostly white exterior
looked really nice even from a distance.
The hotel consists of
two large buildings
connected at the top.
At the top is one of
Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo’s
signature facilities,
the infinity pool.
At the time of my visit,
both breakfast and the infinity pool
required an additional fee
even for hotel guests.
- Breakfast: KRW 35,100 per person
- Infinity pool: KRW 45,000 per person
Even with the guest rate,
both were fairly expensive,
so I decided not to use them this time.
If you’re considering this hotel
because of the infinity pool,
I’d recommend checking the additional fee
along with the room rate.
Lobby and Hotel Facilities

Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo has
a separate first floor and lobby floor.
There’s a convenience store
on the first floor,
while the lobby floor has
A Twosome Place and BHC Chicken.
This makes it convenient
to grab some food or buy necessities
without leaving the hotel.

However, disposable amenities
aren’t provided in the rooms,
so I’d recommend bringing
what you need in advance.
If you forget something,
you can also purchase basic necessities
from the convenience store
or vending machines inside the hotel.
Early Check-In at Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo
I arrived at the hotel
earlier than expected
and asked if I could check in
at around 2 PM.
Fortunately,
I was able to check in right away!
However, since this was earlier
than the hotel’s regular check-in time,
early check-in probably isn’t
always available.
When I visited,
it seemed like they had
an available room
that had already been cleaned.
Depending on room availability,
you may still have to wait
until the regular check-in time.
Still, if you arrive early,
it’s definitely worth asking
the front desk.
Ocean View Corner Room

I booked an ocean view room
and was assigned a corner room
in the west building.
Since Skybay Hotel is divided
into different buildings,
it’s important to check
which building your room is in
before taking the elevator.
As soon as I entered the room,
the bed was right in front of me.
I had seen several reviews
saying that the beds were comfortable,
and after sleeping there myself,
I definitely agreed.
The pillows were comfortable too,
and overall,
I was very satisfied with the bed.

Since I had a corner room,
the layout was slightly different
from a standard room.
The bed was positioned
along the wall,
and the TV wasn’t mounted
directly on the wall.

Instead, it was placed
in a separate area.
The bathroom had
a toilet, sink,
and separate shower booth.
When I checked in,
I was told that the corner room
was slightly larger
than a standard room.

It didn’t feel extremely spacious,
but it was comfortable enough
for two people.
The Best Part: The Ocean View

The best part of my stay
at Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo
was definitely the ocean view.
The weather was especially nice
on the day I visited,
so the ocean was beautifully blue
and the sky was completely clear.
The moment I looked outside
after entering the room,
I immediately felt like
I had made the right choice.

Since I was staying
in a corner room,
I could see not only Gyeongpo Beach
but also the Gyeongpo Lake side.
The ocean was visible
from one side,
while the lake could be seen
from the other.
It really showed
the advantage of staying
in a corner room.
If I visit Skybay Hotel again,
I think the view alone
would be enough reason
for me to come back.

Room Facilities

Taking a closer look
around the room,
there was a notice on the bed
about the hotel’s eco-friendly policy.

Near the entrance,
there were cups,
a wine opener,
and a refrigerator.

There were two bottles of water
inside the refrigerator,
and it was more spacious
than I expected.
I stored a slice of cake
from A Twosome Place
and some seafood
I bought at the market,
and there was plenty of room.

A hair dryer
and disposable slippers
were also provided.

Towels were placed
in both the bathroom
and shower area.
Gyeongpo Beach View from the Balcony

You can also step directly
onto the balcony from the room.

Since I stayed
in a corner room,
the balcony followed
the curved shape of the building.
The ocean was already
clearly visible from inside,
but seeing Gyeongpo Beach
from the balcony
felt completely different.
I liked the view so much
that I ended up
taking a lot of photos.
Since I stayed
in the west building,
I wasn’t able to get
the sunset view I had hoped for.

Instead,
I woke up at around 6 AM
the next morning
and checked the view again.
There were a lot of clouds
that morning,
so it wasn’t as beautiful
as the day before.
But with good weather,
I think the morning view
would also be amazing.
Infinity Pool and Hotel Location
I didn’t use
the infinity pool or breakfast
because of the additional cost.
Still, the infinity pool
looked pretty impressive.
It’s located at the top
of the hotel,
where you can swim
while looking out over the ocean.
If you’re not planning
to swim at Gyeongpo Beach,
using the infinity pool
could be a good alternative.
Another major advantage
of Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo
is its location.
Places like Gangneung Jungang Market
are a little farther away,
but if you have a car,
the distance isn’t much of an issue.
Most importantly,
Gyeongpo Beach is directly
in front of the hotel,
while Gyeongpo Lake
is on the opposite side.
It’s a great location
for exploring the area
around the hotel.
If you’re looking
for an ocean view hotel
in Gangneung,
the location is definitely
one of its biggest advantages.
Parking Was a Little Disappointing
Parking was one area
that I personally found
a little disappointing.
The underground parking area
is spread across two levels,
and there is also
a mechanical parking system.
However,
the overall parking space
didn’t feel very spacious.
If you’re visiting
with a larger vehicle,
parking could be
a little inconvenient.
When I checked out,
I also noticed several cars
parked outside the hotel,
possibly because
the main parking areas were full.
If you’re driving to the hotel,
it’s worth knowing in advance
that parking space
may be limited.
A Note About BHC Chicken
This was personally
a very important detail for me.
When I visited,
the BHC Chicken inside the hotel
only sold the boneless version
of Kwassak King.
And personally…
I think Kwassak King
should be eaten bone-in.
So I ended up
not ordering from
the BHC inside the hotel
and ordered delivery instead.
If there’s a specific menu
you’re planning to order,
I’d recommend checking
what the hotel location sells
before ordering.
Room Cooling Was Disappointing
The view was excellent,
but the biggest downside
of the room was the air conditioning.
The temperature could be set
as low as 15 degrees Celsius,
so I set it
to the lowest temperature.
Even then,
I woke up in the morning
because the room felt hot.
Especially if you’re visiting
during the summer,
the room cooling may feel
a little disappointing.
The underground parking garage
actually felt cooler
when I went down there
to check out.
Service Was Just Okay
The service also felt
a little underwhelming to me.
There wasn’t a particular employee
who was rude,
and nothing happened
that made me feel uncomfortable.
However,
whether it was the hotel staff,
the convenience store,
the cafe,
or the parking facilities,
I didn’t really get the impression
that the overall service
was especially friendly.
Of course,
service is something
everyone experiences differently,
so I’d take this
as just my personal impression.
Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo Overall Review
There were a few things
that could have been better,
but the ocean view
was absolutely worth it.
Especially on a clear day,
the view of Gyeongpo Beach
from the room
was beautiful.
Since I stayed
in a corner room,
I could also see Gyeongpo Lake,
which made the view
even more impressive.
Pros
- Excellent location right in front of Gyeongpo Beach
- Beautiful ocean view
- Corner rooms can offer both ocean and lake views
- Comfortable bed and pillows
- Convenience store, cafe, and chicken restaurant inside the hotel
Cons
- Additional fees for breakfast and the infinity pool
- Limited parking space
- Room cooling could be better during summer
- Service felt fairly average overall
A lake view probably
wouldn’t be bad either,
but if I stay at
Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo again,
I’d definitely choose
an ocean view room.
If you’re looking for
a hotel right in front
of Gyeongpo Beach,
especially one where you can
properly enjoy the ocean
from your room,
Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo
is definitely worth considering.
