Geodong Tangsuyuk in Mukho

This summer, I traveled to Mukho and Gangneung!
And of course, one of the best parts of traveling
is trying local food.

So this time, I’m going to introduce some of the
restaurants I visited during my trip to Mukho.

The first one is Geodong Tangsuyuk,
where I stopped for lunch!

Geodong Tangsuyuk Location

Geodong Tangsuyuk is located at
83 Ilchul-ro, Donghae-si, Gangwon State, South Korea.

You can easily find it by searching for
Geodong Tangsuyuk on the map.

The building looks a little like a container,
so it wasn’t difficult to spot.

It’s a pretty famous restaurant in Mukho,
so I was worried about a long wait before visiting.

When I went, I waited for about 30 minutes
before getting a table.

Waiting and How to Order

There are chairs next to the restaurant
where you can wait for your turn.

But during summer, it gets pretty hot
waiting outside…

Fortunately, there’s a space with a souvenir shop
and cafe to the right of Geodong Tangsuyuk.

So I waited there instead.

You can order your food while waiting.

If you want to change your order afterward,
you can also ask one of the staff inside.

We initially ordered the Real Octopus Tangsuyuk,
but decided we wanted some meat as well.

So we changed our order.

In the end, we ordered:

  • Octopus Jjamppong
  • Geodong Half & Half Tangsuyuk, Size M

Inside the Restaurant

When it’s your turn,
a staff member will show you to your table.

Water, onions, and pickled radish
are provided when you’re seated.

If you need more,
you can get them from the self-service bar.

Utensils, cups, scissors, and tongs
are also provided on the right side of the table.

Geodong Half & Half Tangsuyuk, Size M

The first dish to arrive was the
Geodong Half & Half Tangsuyuk, Size M.

Before ordering, I thought “Half & Half”
meant half fried octopus and half pork tangsuyuk.

But…

I was completely wrong!!

The octopus and pork were actually
attached together in each piece.

It looked completely different from what I expected,
so I found it pretty interesting.

We also tried both sauces.

Personally, I enjoyed the original sauce.

It tasted similar to a more traditional
sweet and sour tangsuyuk sauce.

But the spicy sauce…

Neither I nor the people I went with
really liked it.

We eventually left some of it.

So I think this one will definitely
depend on your personal taste.

Octopus Jjamppong Review

The next dish to arrive was the
Octopus Jjamppong.

The octopus definitely made the dish
look impressive.

And the octopus itself tasted good.

However, the jjamppong broth wasn’t as spicy
or flavorful as I expected.

I personally prefer jjamppong with
a spicy and rich broth.

So this one was a little disappointing for me.

Having octopus in the dish makes it unique,
but judging only by the jjamppong itself,

I didn’t find the flavor as special
as I had expected.

My Experience at Geodong Tangsuyuk

To get straight to the point…

I think it was worth trying once
for around a 30-minute wait.

But I’m not sure I would wait
much longer than that.

Since Geodong Tangsuyuk is quite famous,
I may have gone in with high expectations.

The tangsuyuk was definitely unique because
each piece combined octopus and pork.

The original sauce was also enjoyable
and easy to eat.

The octopus in the jjamppong tasted good,
but the broth was a little mild for my taste.

Of course, food preferences are completely personal,
so keep that in mind if you’re planning to visit!

Visiting in Summer? Be Prepared for the Heat

Aside from the food,
there was one other thing I found disappointing.

As I mentioned earlier,
the restaurant has a container-like structure.

The kitchen was located just beyond
where I was sitting.

Since they were constantly frying food,
I could really feel the heat from the kitchen.

There was also a noticeable smell
of fried food in the dining area.

Even though several air conditioners
and fans were running,
it was still pretty hot inside.

Since I visited during summer,
the heat was especially noticeable while eating.

If you’re planning to visit during summer,
this is something worth knowing beforehand.

Final Thoughts on Geodong Tangsuyuk

If you’re traveling around Mukho,
I think Geodong Tangsuyuk is worth trying once.

The tangsuyuk combining octopus and pork
was especially memorable.

It’s not something I’ve seen
at many other restaurants.

However, personally, I wouldn’t say
the food was worth an extremely long wait.

If the wait is around 20 to 30 minutes,
I’d probably give it a try.

But if the line were much longer,
I’d personally choose another restaurant instead.

If you’re thinking about visiting
Geodong Tangsuyuk during your Mukho trip,

I hope this helps when deciding
whether to wait and what to order!
